I am a Latina candidate in CD 22 that has worked and volunteered for two decades to advocate for underrepresented communities.

As your Committeewoman, I will work to ensure our collective voice is heard. I am running to represent all Democrats in CD 22.

From Galveston to Bremond to Port Arthur, Texas has been home to my family for generations. I was born in Harris County and raised in Missouri City where I regularly traveled to Needville and Alvin for UIL competitions. CD22 is my home and I intend to continue fighting to make it the best it can be for everyone living in our district and in this great state.

This will be my fifth state convention and I have spent the past two years representing CD38 on the State Democratic Executive Committee. I attended every meeting and provided regular communication to the Democrats of CD38. This year I was appointed to serve as Chair of the SDEC Finance Committee and advised the Harris County CD chairs on running the business portion of the county convention. Additionally, I currently serve as Chair of the Texas Progressive Caucus.

Prior to that, I successfully advocated to get an early voting location returned to the densely populated North East area of Katy ISD. In 2024 I ran for municipal utility district director so that there would actually be an election for the first time in its 30 year history. In 2023, after seeing my local polling place make the news, I signed up to become an election worker and have been a presiding judge for several elections. That same year, I graduated from the Harris County Democratic Party Leadership Academy.

I have served on neighborhood, super neighborhood and PTO boards, worked with City Council and HPD to address community concerns, volunteered for the campaigns of Democrats up and down the ballot, and volunteered with Common Cause Texas and Election Protection to help ensure every eligible voter can exercise their right to vote.

Professionally, I have worked tirelessly to build and nurture diverse, inclusive communities, including offering workshops at major international conventions to provide groups and organizations the tools to do the same. My previous work in higher education included becoming a certified LGBTQIA Ally, training on best practices to support first generation/low income college students, and supporting international students and scholars.

I am honored to have the support of many strong Democrats. I would be honored to earn your vote for SDEC Committeewoman.

Whether I have had the chance to meet you yet or not, I look forward to seeing you in Corpus Christi. Thank you for your consideration and please reach out if I can answer any questions or be of any assistance.

In Solidarity,

Angel Viator Smith
