Opening the Archive

Over this period I will be sharing several pieces from my archive.

Some of the notes I have already published come from works created around twelve-thirteen years ago, at the very beginning of my journey as a designer working with paper (and sailing ropes).

In the coming days I will share a few more.

At the time, these pieces were not fully understood. The context was different. The public was less familiar with this language, and the idea of wearing paper as jewelry, not as a conceptual object, but as something to live with every day, seemed unusual to many.

There was also a recurring reaction: the assumption that paper jewelry would inevitably fall apart. It is a comment I have heard many times over the years. Yet it comes from a misunderstanding of both the material and the work behind it.

Paper, when treated with knowledge and care, is not fragile in the simplistic way people imagine. Like many materials, it depends on how it is transformed.

Another difference between then and now is the landscape itself. Today the field of jewelry design is far more crowded. New designers appear constantly, and the audience has become more accustomed to unconventional materials and experimental approaches.

In a way, the context has matured.

For this reason it feels natural, while I finish the new pieces that will be ready soon, to open the archive and bring some of these earlier works back into view. They belong to a moment when the language I was developing was still unfamiliar.

Sometimes objects simply need time before they can be properly seen.

And sometimes the archive tells that story better than anything else.
