We talk about almost everything, but we rarely talk about our fears. Or perhaps we choose not to, because we’re afraid they’ll make us look weak. We convince ourselves that admitting what makes us feel vulnerable will only bring those fears closer to the surface. Maybe it does. But there are some things we have to face eventually. For me, one of those things is the fear of moving to a new neighborhood, even within my own city.
I don’t usually hesitate to share personal things, but I’ve noticed that most of what I write here comes after I’ve already processed it. I write about the lessons I’ve learned, the experiences I’ve made peace with, the things I can now look back on with a little more wisdom. It’s much easier to write when you’ve already reached the other side. But there is another side too. And my fear of moving into a new home is one of the things that still lives there.
