Even though it’s late in the summer, we still got some big recruiting news regarding the outgoing senior class. 2026 120 lb state champion, Mariah Roberts, has committed to wrestle at the next level for Southern Virginia. The Southern Virginia staff didn’t have to look far to find Roberts, as Riverheads High School is only about 30 minutes away from the SVU campus.
After winning her state title, Roberts went to Virginia Beach and took sixth place at NHSCA Nationals in the 114 lb weight class.
Roberts’ state title marked her fourth time on the state podium. Roberts climbed up one step higher on the podium throughout her high school career, taking fourth as a freshman and finishing as a champion.
On the way to her state championship, Roberts won a 14-13 shootout over Mountain View’s Danika Castrejon in the quarterfinals, before getting by Westfield’s Zoe Rodriguez, 3-1, in the semis. In the state finals, Roberts pinned Page County’s Aubrianna Bracken early in the third period.
The win over Castrejon was revenge for a regular-season loss at the Orange County Girls Open. It was the only loss during Roberts’ junior campaign.
Roberts is also a Beast of the East placewinner and a two-time zone champion.
In our final Class of 2026 girls rankings, Roberts came in at #5 overall.
