A pair of marquee freshmen from the 2025-26 season are on the move and both moves involve Benedictine College Prep. The Cadets will add a new face to their lightweights as Seth Hopkins comes in from Thomas Dale High School. As a freshman, Hopkins finished third in 6A Region A at 113 lbs and went 1-2 at the state tournament. In his final state tournament match, Hopkins pushed Region B champion Lincoln Isaacs during a one-point win.
During the regular season, Hopkins won titles at the Mechanicsville Holiday Classic and the Tommy Legge Memorial. He was also fourth at the Richmond Invitational. Before starting high school, Hopkins was third in 14U freestyle at the VA/USAW State Championships.
Hopkins has also reclassified with the move and will be a part of the Class of 2030.
At this point, it appears that he’ll compete at 120 or 126 lbs for Benedictine.
Transferring from Benedictine to Staunton River is Emmitt Henley. As a freshman, Henley finished third at 138 lbs in a VISAA bracket that featured National Prep All-American Matteo DeFilippo and two-time champion Noah Rankin.
The 2025-26 season saw Henley finish fourth at the East Coast Catholic Classic and on top of the podium at the Lafayette Ram Rumble.
This spring, Henley won 16U state titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. Though he didn’t place at Fargo, Henley had an excellent showing with a 4-2 record in both styles.
Henley will join a Staunton River lineup that returns two state champions and four other medalists. Later, we’ll break down if that’s enough firepower to test Skyline for the 3A state title.
While Hopkins is reclassing, both wrestler earned a spot on the latest Class of 2029 rankings, with Henley coming in at #6 and Hopkins at #35.
