As we go deeper into 2026, the mantra is going to be ‘Prepare for the future, the crypto market is opening’, but first let’s take a look at what’s been happening in the long and consequential month of March.

Spoke at the DC Blockchain Summit March 16-20 during DC Blockchain Week and joined the UK Parliamentary Delegation to meet with SEC and CFTC to push for a single crypto market framework for the US and the UK.

A very consequential month for the crypto industry. Not only did the SEC and CFTC commit to harmonisation moving forward - a marked departure from previous administration, but we saw the delivery of a common token taxonomy, clearing up a number of intra-agency nd industry definitions. In addition we saw the introduction of an Innovation Exemption ensuring that projects have sufficient time to build and adapt to future guidelines. It didn't stop there, a new proposed Safe Harbor built on Safe Harbor 1.0 and 2.0 created by Commissioner Hester Peirce and her team (this initiative was started in 2020 and updated in 2021 after an extensive public comment period). There were other announcements in the last weeks of March including the Parity Act, and form the commercial world, Coinbase announced Crypto Mortgages.

Lacking from an announcement perspective was the fight over the Clarity Act. However as of publishing of this newsletter looks like a deal has been reached and the act should be complete in April 2026.

  1. The advent of the Clarity Act will usher in a new wave of retail crypto investors as banks and other financial insitituitions welcome the next 100, 000, 000 consumers. More Crypto accounts at retail banks means more need for crypto inheritance. For $1 a day for crypto inheritance it's never been easier to protect your legacy assets - regardless of where you bought them and where you are storing them.

  2. The Token Taxonomy announcement lays out a clear definition and lifecycle for tokens. Including security tokens, functional tokens and the role of investment contracts.

  3. Innovation Exemption provides provides future projects with flexibility in building out new innovations that can be adapted to prevailing regulations something that didn’t exist before.

  4. Safe Harbor proposal - which is also part of Clarity Act - For Vault12s VGT which was issued as a security, there is a clear path forward for the token to transition from a security under the jurisdiction of the SEC to a functional (aka Utility) token under the purview of the CFTC.

  5. Parity Act - deals with taxation but ostensibly makes sure that digital assets are treated on par with other types of assets including the calculation of capital gains. Again this will reduce risks for retail crypto consumers driving increased adoption of crypto solutions.

I got to meet with Commissioner Hester Peirce, head of the Crypto Task Force and with Chairman Selig’s team at the CFTC and remind them that not only has Vault12 contributed to the development of Safe Harbor 1 and Safe Harbor 2 but we also provided detailed feedback to the Crypto Task Force in 2025 which has made it into the proposed guidelines. This is a phenomenal accomplishment for any project.

The topic du jour, nearly every meeting we had centered around the clarity act. and the battle over clarity is very much still raging, with yield being the major sticking point. Right now, it’s the banking lobby vs the crypto lobby.

The banking lobby wants to restrict stablecoin issuers from offering yield, arguing that it’ll cause a flight in deposits as consumers move their money out of their savings accounts into higher-yield stablecoins.

while the crypto lobby argues that consumers should have access to yield-bearing crypto products.

several high ranking officials care a lot about the clarity act getting passed. I remain optimistic that it gets passed.

For the first time, the SEC is classifying most crypto assets as digital commodities, not securities. this will finally give investors (both retail and institutional) confidence over what they’re investing in and lead to big new inflows of capital into crypto.

Meeting with both the SEC and CFTC, it was clear that both bodies want the US to be the home of crypto innovation.

Paul Atkins (SEC chairman) is currently advocating for an “innovation exemption”, which would allow crypto startups to operate under a “safe harbor” period. this would allow them to operate without full compliance for a period of time (so long as they meet basic consumer protection standards). big change from the gensler era!

A token can now start as a security (eg during a fundraise) but lose that status once its network becomes functional or sufficiently distributed. this is a big win for crypto companies, giving young projects flexibility as they evolve.

Not often discussed by the public, but arguably one of the most important acts to make crypto payments possible in real life.

The act ensures that using crypto in daily life wouldn’t trigger “capital gains” and that participating in crypto lending doesn’t count as an asset “sale”. both would significantly further crypto adoption and make it part of everyday life.

UK US Crypto Alliance

I just spent the past week in DC not only as a sponsor of the DC Blockchain Summit and speaker, but also as a sponsor of a parliamentary delegation - the US-UK Crypto Alliance. This delegation was organised by former MP Dr. Lisa Cameron, the UKs leading lights in Crypto, and was joined by Lord John Taylor, Lord Kulveer Ranger and a number of crypto company executives.
This high profile delegation was able to meet with a number of very senior administration and agency officials from the SEC, and CFTC.

Cannot share too many details about what was discussed - but I’ve shared note in this newsletter of what I can.

  • I’m now a producer for an upcoming movie, “The Bitcoin Executor” - it tells the story of an economics professor named Ken who becomes the executor of a will for Dr. Dean Sinautra, a friend and colleague who has mysteriously disappeared.
Although philosophically opposed, Ken takes on the task of personally delivering a set of Bitcoin hardware wallets to Dean’s chosen heirs. In the process Ken attempts to find clues that could solve the mystery of Dean’s disappearance. The discoveries made along the way force him to question the things he thought he knew so well.
