We are thrilled to announce that, after more than 2 years of hard work, Singer’s sculpture now graces the Kay White Atrium at Vashon Center for the Arts! You can see him anytime during gallery open hours (W-Su, 12-5 pm).
Singer’s Sculpture is a blend of scientific accuracy and artistic impression. He is a testament to the power of the Vashon community when we come together for a collective task. Over the past two years, hundreds of islanders have helped make this island icon a reality. Now, Singer has risen from sea to sky as a sentinel for his species, the Pacific gray whale, and as a call for deep climate and ocean awareness. When you vote for Singer for Mayor you will support Vashon Nature Center’s marine conservation and education work and raise awareness of Singer himself.
Friday, June 12th, Vashon Nature Center hosted an exclusive VIP event at the Vashon Center for the Arts. Over 150 project supporters joined us to witness the final steps of the sculpture installation. As the artists and engineers completed their difficult tasks, the crowd gathered around to join in a final countdown to turn on the kinetic articulating tail and fluke bringing the sculpture to life and evoking a sense of wonder in all who were present.
There is still time to become part of Singer’s story by casting your vote for Singer for Mayor or by adopting one of the remaining available bones.
