Embarrassment is an underexplored emotion.
Because let’s be honest…Most people don’t avoid failure they avoid cringe.
Fear gets a lot of focus .
Embarrassment doesn’t.
But in work ( and life) embarrassment is the real gatekeeper.
Fear says: “What if this doesn’t work?”
Embarrassment says: “What if this looks stupid while I’m trying?”
That’s why so many people stay
“almost ready” forever.
In trying to be Polished and safe , they end up being “Quietly invisible”.
So, The uncomfortable truth is this:
Most breakthroughs don’t sit on the other side of fear.
They sit on the other side of cringe.
The bad idea.
The awkward early version.
The thing you wouldn’t want your smartest friend ( or colleague) to see yet.
If you’re not willing to be embarrassed,
you’re not actually experimenting.
You’re just refining what already feels acceptable.
The older I get the more I realise “Growth doesn’t require confidence.
It requires a tolerance for temporary humiliation.”
And that’s a much rarer skill.
