Ahead of the highly anticipated start of their nightlife residency at The Yard Theatre on Saturday 16th September, we caught up with DOOMSCROLL, a queer collective and party formed of GLYSK, Brain Rays & Quiet, In Bed With My Brother, Bopa Rhys and AstraBeneca.
For the last 3 years, DOOMSCROLL have held a residency at the legendary and somewhat notorious Bang Face weekender, hosting BANGFACE TV, and will be bringing their “queer utopia of silliness” to The Yard in Hackney Wick to host their own unique brand of visual art, performance, drag, and up tempo bangers.
So what does a DOOMSCROLL party sound like?
The crew selected 10 tracks that epitomise the musical ethos of the project with additional commentary from the Vandelay Radio crew.
Thot Shit (TAAHLIAH edit) - Megan Thee Stallion
TAAHLIAH turns Thot Shit into a dancefloor heater with b-club like sampling and a menacing jersey adjacent bounce - 11/10
Beep (Donnay Soldier Donk Club Soda Remix) Ft. Will I Am - The Pussycat Dolls
Another edit, this time of the donk variety, taking an instant classic into almost piss-take levels of fun - 10/10
Immaterial - SOPHIE
SOPHIE is and always will be a pioneer. Immaterial turns the idea of pop upside down, dancefloor leaning with emotive goddess-like vocals. Rest in Power - 11/10
Out of My Head - Itoa
Before Sully, Tim Reaper, Coco Bryce - there was no one making music like Itoa, effortless blending jungle, footwork and jit as seen in this cute little banger - 10/10
When I Think About U - Eram
Anything on Das Booty deserves a 10 on the Vandescale already, but Eram takes things further with this wobbly jungle number that we are very pleased to now know - 11/10
Gucci Gucci - Kreayshwan
Kreayshawn appeared and disappeared with this monstrous hit , leaving a wave of poorly dressed millenials who thought nerd glasses were cool for way too long - 11/10
Fart Sounds - Over 1000 Farts (1 Hour)
Does this even need commentary? - Fart/10
My Barn My Rules - MCR-T & horsegiirL
Let’s get horsey! I would shit on this track so much if it wasn’t for the fact that it really is actually quite good - 10/10
VROOM VROOM (DJ Fingerblast Remix) - Charlie XCX
A happy piano riff decieves you into thinking you’re heading towards a green, pleasant land. No. There is no escape from the donk, which DJ FINGERBLAST does so well. - 11/10
GLYSK - 'Hedonist' (Brain Rays & Quiet remix)
DOOMSCROLL members come together like the Power Rangers of party for this grooving number, rolling kicks, dark broody bassline, all brought to life with bright vocals. What’s not to like? - 11/10
