If You only had 3 months to change careers

If you had 3 months to change careers, would you start with applications?

Most people update their CVs, scroll job boards, and apply everywhere.

But career pivots don’t fail for lack of ambition. They fail because people mistake movement for strategy.

If I had just 90 days, I’d treat it like a focused build season. Not a scramble, a build. Here’s what I’d do:

Before jumping into courses or applications, I’d clarify one clear direction. One role. One problem space. One focus.

Then I’d validate it. In an hour or two, I’d:

  • Scan 5–10 real job descriptions.

  • Note repeated skills, outputs, and tools.

  • Pick one small skill or task to try this week.

This is about rapid alignment, not overthinking. It ensures the effort you invest is relevant and visible.

Next, I’d create tangible evidence of capability. One micro-project, one case study, or one real-world simulation. Something I could explain in a conversation.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. It has to show decision-making, problem-solving, and reflection.

Finally, I’d focus on exposure. Now applications, networking, and feedback matter most because there’s proof to back them up.

  • Targeted networking, not mass messaging.

  • Specific feedback on the portfolio or task completed.

  • Apply selectively, with clarity and confidence.

Momentum from Phase 1 and 2 compounds here.
If you had 90 days starting today, what would your first phase actually look like? Not in theory, but on your calendar.

Career change doesn’t start with luck; it starts with design.
Structure creates momentum, and momentum, sustained long enough, creates change.
