Most job seekers paste a resume into ChatGPT and type “please fix this.”
That’s not a prompt. That’s a wish. ❌👎
Recruiters spend seconds on your resume, and none of those seconds are about grammar. The ATS filtering it out doesn’t care that ChatGPT made your sentences smoother.
It’s checking your resume against a specific job description for specific keywords, and “please fix this” gives the model nothing to check against.
“I ran this system against three job descriptions for a client this week”

Why it fails:
A recruiter isn’t reading your resume for prose quality.
Most recruiters are pattern-matching your resume against a job description, a headcount budget, and twenty other candidates who applied in the same hour.
The shift: stop treating ChatGPT like an editor. Start treating it like the recruiter, the ATS, and the interview panel, one at a time, in that order.

Every job description hides more than it states. The skills that actually get you rejected are rarely the ones written in the bullet points.
→ What this does: forces ChatGPT to reason from the actual text in front of it instead of pattern-completing a generic “how to read a job posting” answer.
Company research usually means skimming the About page for thirty seconds. That produces the same three facts every other applicant already has.
→ What this does: turns generic research into interview ammunition instead of background reading you’ll forget by the call.
Why this works:
“give me 3 specific facts I can drop into an interview” is the gold. It forces the output to be usable in a sentence, not just informative on a page.
One line, and the research stops being homework and starts being leverage.
This is the two-stage version of “fix my resume.”
Stage one finds what gets you rejected. Stage two rewrites only that, with a rule attached so the rewrite can’t drift back into vague language.
