UPPI Assoc. Prof. Jose Andres F. Ignacio represented the Institute during the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) in Fukuoka, Japan, held from 2-7 August 2026, through the support of the UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development (OVCRD).
Bridging demography and physical hazard modeling, Assoc. Prof. Ignacio delivered two oral presentations under the Interdisciplinary Geosciences section:
- Verticality and Risk: Reframing the IPCC Hazard-exposure-vulnerability Model Using Building-level Geodata in Marikina City, Philippines
- Morphological Foresighting: A Nationwide "Lost Stock" Inventory of Irreversible Storm Surge Displacement in the Philippines
His research underscores the critical need to integrate high-resolution demographic data with physical sciences to develop effective disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation strategies.
Beyond the scientific sessions, he engaged with international peers and connected with a contingent of emerging Filipino researchers advancing population and environmental science on the global stage.

UPPI Assoc. Prof. Ignacio networked with both international and local researchers during the conference.
