SPAM and Sanrio have teamed up on a limited-edition collectible can, Hello Kitty tucking into a SPAM Musubi, which is a cooky pairing. The launch comes wrapped in “Tour de Sizzle,” a digital campaign following Hello Kitty and SPAMMY around the world through Hawaiian-inspired Musubi, Korean-inspired Bibimbap, Japanese-inspired Ramen and Canadian-inspired Poutine, each one billed as a global classic despite being, in practice, a country’s own translation of an idea borrowed from somewhere else.
Every nation does this in one unique ways, here in the UK we’ve taken Indian cuisine and built Tikka Masala and Coronation Chicken out of it, dishes that don’t exist in India at all. Flavour doesn’t travel unchanged, it mutates the moment it crosses a border, and every culture ends up eating its own version.
The microsite at TourdeSizzle.com leans into that same idea as an interactive Hello Kitty kitchen, easter eggs, digital Sizzle Passport stamps, exclusive content, and sweepstakes ran through June for anyone chasing the bundle or the free limited-edition can.
