Rage + Resistance

Mimi · Mimi’s Substack

I started not to post this week in light of everything going on in the world, cause what I did and wore this week is irrelevant to what is happening around us. Yet resistance in the form of joy and delulu if you will, serves in some forms as a sliver of light in what feels like a shroud of darkness that feels so encompassing right now.

Recently I’ve really been leery of some of the folks around me. They can shroud it in “We just need more Jesus” all they want, but the ugly is deep rooted. I was playing Bunco with some of my neighbors this week and the subject of the Great Migration came up and I was floored at the older women who had no idea what it was or even why the black folks were fleeing the south.

Made me really understand how much some people really don’t know the history of this country/the south and let their “churches'“ guide them not knowing that a lot of those same churches they belong to now likely were home to some of the torch carrying type and not understanding that it’s going to take a lot more than saying I’m not a racist to move past some of the culture that has been passed down and still exists in those places. I’m really and truly understanding that ignorance has to be the greatest form of bliss.

It’s hard to explain in full clarity where my head has been around no longer trying to understand how people are looking past these things, yet had so much to say about Charlie Kirk and spending my time in places where I know people truly stand against injustice and if I can’t know for sure, I need to remove myself.

I’m not going to go further into this. As my rage this week really has no coherent words for myself nor this Substack. It’s giving screaming into the void and fully understanding some folks would rather stand for chaos in the name of Jesus.

And stay out of my comments, if you don’t like what I’m saying on my Substack. UNSUBSCRIBE.

Moving on.

On Monday/MLK day I spent a day on volunteering with my sorority sisters. Once that was done, I came home and rested.

The majority of this week was spent hearing about the impending snow/ice storm and getting prepared. I didn’t go overboard, but we were prepared.

I did come across a new version of those viral TikTok Costco croissants. Too good.

I continued exercising every day. I didn’t go too hard this week, lots of stretching. One thing about the Oura ring that I love is that it tells you when your body is showing signs of needing rest. I’ve been really adhering to that and physically I’ve been feeling really good. (I’ll talk more about my Oura ring in an upcoming post and all that I’m learning from the data.)

I got in a 1.5 mile run in preparation for my race which is next Sunday. I’m excited!

My husband and I had a quick date night at bartaco. I love bartaco, that is our go to spot when we don’t want to think too hard.

Saw this mural walking to the restaurant.

Sunday it was icy and cold as forecasted.I spent the majority of the day in my mom cave reading, having some wine, and listening to jazz. It was the highlight of my week.

I finished The Great Mann and started Coleman Hill. I’ll finish Coleman Hill between today and tomorrow. I am really enjoying it, full review of all the books I read this month coming soon.

I did manage to finish my embroidery for The Bluest Eye and worked on my other piece over the weekend. My screen time was down 44%….mission accomplished!

How was your week? I hope there was some joy, even a sliver of it.

Thanks for rocking withe me,

Mimi
