Obviously socks and shoes are an essential, practical part of getting dressed. But they had a styling moment back at the Celine Resort 26 which really lives rent free in my brain. He showed the lace-up leather derby shoes, reworked to feel somewhere between a glove shoe, a ballet flat, and a lace-up. They were all styled with visible socks, either monochrome or in a contrasting color, and it all made the outfit.
You can wear a lot of different socks and make it work, but this is how I’ve been thinking about it to simplify. Honing in on the weight, when I use color, when I keep things monochrome, and which socks I wear with which shoes.
These shoes are probably my favorite place to play with a colored sock. They’re also the kind of shoe you can just really wear in and wear everywhere. Thinking about that going into fall, it’s nice to have a great shoe you don’t have to be precious about in weather.
