Hey Mama, you’re doing an amazing job. ❤️ Yes really, truly you are!! Now can I ask you a question?
How did you react when you read those words?
Did you roll your eyes and think that sounds cheesy? Did your shoulders tense up thinking, me, amazing... no way? Did your inner critic jump in with a quick, “Uhh... far from it”? Or did something in you soften, even just a little?
There is absolutely no judgement here, but the way we respond to words like these can tell us something. It can offer a little clue into how our hearts, minds, and bodies are really doing.
If you had said those words to me last week, I probably would have brushed them off. Or maybe I would have burst into tears. Have you ever had days like that too?
The truth is, so many of us are so much harder on ourselves than we ever would be on someone else.
I noticed that recently in my own life when I caught myself comparing my current business season to someone else’s much later chapter. It left me feeling behind instead of grounded and excited for what lies ahead.
I had to gently remind myself that each of our seasons is allowed to look different. We all carry different responsibilities, needs, dreams, goals, and demands, and we’re allowed to let our season unfold in its own unique way.
And I think the same is true on the Type 1 Diabetes journey.
So Mama, where have you been resisting giving yourself credit lately? Where have you been overlooking your own courage, your own growth, your own strength, and your own season?
Where have you been so focused on what still feels hard that it’s been hard, even impossible at times, to truly pause and take in how much you’re already carrying and doing with such love, resilience and dedication?
Sometimes the most meaningful parts of the diabetes journey are the very things no one else sees. Navigating my own diabetes journey as a T1D spouse, and supporting many T1D mamas, I’m blown away by the quiet courage it asks of us:
Standing beside your child or spouse for one more blood sugar check
Helping rub their back while quietly reassuring them during a low
Waking in the night when your own body desperately wants sleep
Thinking ten steps ahead when the rest of the world gets to be more spontaneous
Carrying the mental tabs that no one else can see
Making countless tiny decisions that help your family feel safe and supported
Holding it together on the outside when your heart feels anything but calm
Showing up again and again, even on the days you feel tired too
That matters. And the way you love, lead, support, and carry your family on this journey matters more than you know.
So this week, let’s focus on giving ourselves a little more credit and slowing things down.
Maybe it looks like spending less time in spaces that make you compare… hello social media! Maybe it looks like stepping outside for fresh air, curling up with a good book, drawing a relaxing bath, or simply letting yourself exhale at the end of the day.
Or maybe it’s even simpler than that. Maybe it’s just pausing long enough to say, “I’m doing a really good job in a really demanding role.” Because you are.
And that is our much needed reminder for this week. Yes, Mama. You’re doing an amazing job. Truly.
Not because everything feels perfect. Not because every day feels easy. But because you keep showing up with love, courage, and intention in the middle of a journey that asks a lot from you.
I hope you take these words to heart, because I mean them with my whole heart. ❤️
Until next time, sending love and light to you and your beautiful family,
Allee
