The snow came down heavy and thick. The wind howled and roared, shaking the walls of the cabin with fury. But inside, a fire held the cold at bay. It crackled and popped as if challenging the storm’s anger outside.
Barron sat by it, occasionally giving it a stoke or throwing another log on. How long would this bloody storm last? It had already been raging for days. He was going stir crazy cooped inside. But leaving would be suicide.
At least, as a human it would be.
Barron’s gaze went to the wolf pelt hanging next to his coat. It’s fur was thick and dark gray. The tail bushy. The face almost sneered at Barron, like it was taunting him.
Pick me up. Use me. Free me.
Barron turned from it. With how the storm raged, he didn’t think it’d be any wiser to shift and leave. The snow was piled up to the windows by now. He’d be swimming doggy-style through the snow.
No, he’d stay and endure. The storm would eventually let up. Nature couldn’t stay mad forever. And when that moment came…
He walked to the pelt and stroked it. “Then we will run, my friend.”
