Dear Tucson Essay Club, I’m writing to invite you to participate in a project I’m running through another one of the literary organizations I’m associated with, Essay Daily, called L*STS.

For L*STS, we invite contributions of lists, lasts, losts, and lusts (and anything else that fits the l*sts metric). We plan on publishing a series of brief (and maybe some longer) pieces that are either lists of some sort, about lasts (last time doing or seeing something?), losts (lost media, lost friends, lost essays, lost people, lost time, whatever), or lusts (self-explanatory, probably, but these don’t have to be erotic in nature; they should however have some urgency and obsession towards something).

Drop me an email at ander at arizona dot edu to pitch us something if you’d like to. This is pretty casual so if you have something ready to go, that’s also fine; no need to pitch in that case. It is helpful to know if you’re working on something, though, so we can plan for it. If you want to pitch something more formal, great.

These could be fragments. They can be sketches. Like it could be a literal list. These could even be reprints. They don’t need to be Great Finished Essays; we’re more interested in more people participating in smaller ways than Great Writers Crushing All-Time Perfect Essays.

This is a the more the merrier situation, so please do spread the word to friends, foes, colleagues, students, etc. Well, if they’re foes who are assholes or friends who are assholes, then maybe don’t, but if they’re cool, then great.

Work can come in to me (ander at arizona dot edu) with a bio and a paragraph about what this thing is / process / context / etc. We expect to publish them through the fall, but would love to have some coming in by early August to get us started (we already have a couple sent in). All of these will be published in a series on Essay Daily <essaydaily.org> in which we’ll get to see a cross-section of where we are at. It would be great to get some of our Tucson Essay Club folks involved in this if you’re interested.

Also, heads up on our next event: we’re planning an informal social hour to celebrate Tucson Essay Club’s first birthday. It’ll be Sunday August 1, 5-7pm at Slow Body. We’ll have cake! I’ll also be sending around a report from the first year of Tucson Essay Club with what we did this year and what we’re up to next year, with an invitation for our dues-paying members to contribute your input about what you’d most like to see.

And, hey, to celebrate our 1st birthday we also made a couple new shirts, including this one featuring iconic Tucson landmark Lucky Wishbone:

There’s that one and a few more all available for order on the shop. I’ll have a handful of these printed for the birthday party too (very limited color/size options) if you want to grab one in person (but if you want a specific color/size you’re better off ordering online).
