I’m used to being counted out

Folks, it’s Troy Jackson. When I was 28 years old, Susan Collins was elected to the U.S. Senate for the first time. She promised back then that she’d only serve two terms.

After three decades in Washington, she’s made it clear who she’s there for: the corporations and billionaires (and trillionaire Elon Musk) who keep her in power. And of course, Donald Trump — who she’s voted with 96% of the time.

Speaking of her votes, Susan’s voting record in the Senate is a complete disaster. She’s voted against affordable healthcare, against organized labor, against getting dark money out of politics, and against reproductive freedom.

She’s said over and over again how concerned she is, or troubled, or saddened — or even very concerned. But none of that has made her actually stand up and fight for the working Mainers who put their trust in her.

But Susan still has one big advantage over my campaign: she’s got a 30-year, $10 million head start, and we’ve got less than 100 days to go until Election Day.

My team and I are going to every corner of Maine to talk to as many folks as we can, and we’re building up a huge team of volunteers on the ground who are dedicated to seeing this thing through. More than a thousand Mainers joined our volunteer kickoff meeting this week, and I’m grateful to every single person who’s getting involved in this campaign.

While this movement organizes on the ground, we also need to build up our resources for the attack ads that are coming. Republicans have already started a $42 million ad campaign to keep Susan Collins in power (and keep me out), and we know the GOP is ready to spend hundreds of millions of dollars if that’s what it takes.

They said way back when that a bunch of loggers couldn’t take on the big landowners exploiting them. But we did.

They said a working-class guy from Allagash couldn’t rise to lead the Maine Senate. And I did.

Now they’re gonna say that a grassroots campaign powered by working people cannot defeat Susan Collins and her billionaires.
