Childhood memories of when we lived in Missouri before we moved to Nome, Alaska.

Lots of moving around growing up and further moving around as an adult. I am currently writing more poems about Nome.

As a first-generation American, I am inspired by my ancestors I have never met. My mom's parents were killed in 1944 during Allied Force bombing in their town in Bavaria, along with half their children. I write in that mysterious atmosphere of missing them/discovering them through pictures and stories.

I am also inspired to write by my former teachers who have passed on and would want to make them proud/carry on their legacy. Edward Dorn, Tom Clark, John Beebe, Jim Rice, and many others come to mind. During COVID and up to now, I have taken workshops from Joan Houlihan, Martha Rhodes, Hermine Meinhard, Fred Marchant, and others who kept me somewhat sane during this challenging period.

Of course, I love the name of your publication. It indicates passion and resilience, also standing up to injustices.

I hate it when I lose my train of thought, but find that what happens can be magic when I write and am led to discover much about myself and this world.

Jean Valentine, Larry Levis, Peter Covino, Linda Gregg, Lorna Dee Cervantes, Sean Singer, Jennifer Elmore.
