The cicadas are thrumming. It’s the end of summer, or nearly so, and you’ve been soaking in the sunny days and warm nights. But it feels like you need a change. All this repetition is getting stale as hell and a switch-up could be just what you need to make the end of this summer something to remember.
Should you stick to the city, where you can still hear the hustle and bustle around you? Even if you’re going solo, you won’t exactly feel alone. There’s something comforting about the lights and sirens and people yelling at each other in the alleys. Even if your idea of the city is just your little suburb, there’s comfort there.
Or, would you prefer a more remote location for your end-of-summer soiree? Summer is perfect when you’re surrounded by the outdoors. Crickets, a crackling fire, and maybe some roasted marshmallows will make your night something special. You’ll be stuck in the city once summer ends, so you might as well enjoy nature while you still can.
I want to be somewhere remote.

Good call. You’re safest when you’re surrounded by people and stores and maybe even emergency services. It’s not that you’re skittish. You just like to plan for every scenario.
That being said, you don’t have to spend the end of the summer by yourself. You could hang out with friends or family. Maybe have a game night? A backyard barbecue? A sleepover? Life is better when you’re surrounded by the ones you love.
Or maybe you’re a loner. There’s nothing wrong with that! Introversion is valid and sometimes you just want to veg by yourself at home. Maybe put on a movie, read a book, play a video game? It sounds relaxing and easy.
I want to be surrounded by people.
Ahh, nature. This is the life! Smell the trees, feel the breeze on your skin. You can probably already taste the melty chocolate and crunchy overcooked marshmallow on your palate. Nothing can go wrong except for maybe some pesky mosquito bites. This isn’t spooky at all. Rejuvenation is the name of the game, and you’re here to chillax.
You know what would make this better? Friends. Imagine sitting around the fire, swapping stories. Or hopping in the lake for a night swim. With your people by your side, this end-of-summer cabin trip will be epic.
No, actually, maybe it would be better alone. Peace and quiet is what you need, and that can be hard to do when your friends are up all night partying. This is supposed to be a relaxing outdoor trip, and you can only do that solo.
I'd rather be in the woods alone.
This is going to be perfect. In your home town with all your favorite people? That’s a recipe for a summer you’ll never forget. But wait…you hear something creaking. You thought being in the city surrounded by people you know would be the safest option, and yet here you are in the middle of what feels like a horror movie. How can this be?
A scream breaks through the hustle and bustle of the city.
Your worst nightmare has become a reality. Is it people you fear, or something else?
The unknown scares me most of all.
It’s your time to relax. You’ve got your book, a fancy iced latte, and the craft project you’ve been avoiding. The city is moving around you and you’re here, pleasantly still. You can already feel the stress melting off of you. But wait…a shiver just ran up your spine. Was that a noise? In your home? You’re supposed to be alone.
A scream breaks through the silence…was that you?
Your worst nightmare has become a reality. Is it people you fear, or something else?
There's something worse than people...
While the woods can be scary sometimes, you made sure to surround yourself with people you love and trust. And honestly, you’re having a blast. But wait…someone is missing. Where did they go? They must just be getting firewood. Right?
A scream breaks through the trees.
Your worst nightmare has become a reality. Is it people you fear, or something else?
This may sound like a scary setup to other people, but the idea of a solo trip to the woods is just what you need. Maybe you’ll even finish that novel you’ve had kicking around your brain. But wait…what was that sound? A branch breaking nearby. It’s probably just a deer. Right?
A scream pierces your ear drums. Was that you…or something else?
Your worst nightmare has become a reality. Is it people you fear, or something else?
The unknown is so much scarier.
