This dead wood
is teeming with life; once
lush branches sprouting leaves - habitat
of crawlers now, bottom
of foodchain.
Parks are inspiring this time of year. Even if only for the dead branches of trees being stacked in strategic places to form habitats for insects, fungi and invertebrates necessary for a healthy ecosystem and that important base of our food chain.

Have you ever felt you had too much on your plate? Overwhelmed by the workload of all the tasks you’ve said yes to? Then this poem is a good reminder for you. In his signature play of rhythm and rhyme, Punit Thakkar shares a beautiful poem with an important message. Enjoy Genie!:
The poem at the top of this post was inspired by a little bird searching for food in a pile of dead wood. Now, birds are wonderful sources of inspiration. Whether it’s a robin or a heron. Poet Brian Funke shows this in his poem Birdwatching, which gives you a lot to think about. Enjoy his poem here:
We’ve been reading Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls quite often in the last year. Great stories about great women. And although I am very happy to celebrate their intellect, creativity and courage, there are so many people that deserve to be celebrated as well, even though their actions may not have become part of the narrative of positive change. We can’t all be like Rosa Parks, set down for good, a beautiful sonnet by James Maynard is very much about that. Celebrating more, without discounting the ones we already celebrate. Well, go enjoy this poem, and celebrate the poet who wrote it. He deserves it.
