Dear Ones,
Iverson is my beloved, eternally cherished 9 year old black Labrador. Here she is saying cheese, nice to meet you! What a beauty, yea?
She was an 8 week old rescue puppy that officially became mine almost immediately after my relocation from San Francisco to Columbus, Ohio in 2017. I’d found her listed on a generic adoption site that pulled from local rescues when I’d moved with my ex. She was a promise he’d made as a kind of “thanks for leaving California for me” reward.
Iverson, or Ivy, as she is most often called, was grouped with two additional lab puppies, her sister and brother, on the listing. I first selected the alternate female from the bunch - a chocolate lab with bright blue/green eyes - to inquire about when I filled out the initial adoption forms and booked my phone call with the nonprofit. But just as I was telling the rescue worker that we’d like to reserve the chocolate female, my ex shouted from the kitchen “Wait! No! Say the black one - the other girl!!”.
