summary:: you can open notes in many ways in Obsidian including via Quick Switcher, links, Obsidian Files Pane, and Obsidian Search Pane
Quick Switcher
summary:: Quick Switcher acts like a recent file log and a search by name to let you open files.
If you open a new tab, it will look like this:
Info
The "Go to File" or "See recent files" will let you open an existing note or file inside of Obsidian. You may notice they both have the same keyboard shortcut. This is because the both are done via "Quick Switcher".
Obsidian Links
summary:: You can make a link by typing [[file name]] You can click or right click links to open them.
I already have links set to auto-update if you rename a file, so your links should not go stale unless you change a file name outside of Obsidian or delete the file.
If a note has a link, click that link will open the linked note in your current tab.
If you have the current note pinned and click a link, it will open the note in a new tab.
If you hold
CTRL+Shiftwhen you click a link, it will open the note in a new tab.If you right click on the link you will get multiple options.
The top four options in your right click menu let you open the link in different places.
Open link (in current tab)
Open to the right (will open side-by-side)
Obsidian Files Pane
summary:: On the left side panel (more about panels at Understanding Side Panels in Obsidian), you can see the Files pane. This lets you navigate through the folder system to find files (notes and other files) and open them. You can click or right click to open them.
Obsidian Search Pane
summary:: In Search, you can type it either file paths, file name, words you think are in the note you are looking for, etc. to try and find notes.
If I search for "goblin", here are the results.
You can click or right click on the results to open them.
