The course is run by Siobhan O’Halleran, who cut her teeth in the copywriting team at Kuoni and is now a pro freelance copywriter and editor. Here, she’s divulging how she got into it, how much you can earn, and what editors look for when commissioning copywriting work.

I’m a travel copywriter, editor and content manager. I’ve been freelance for the past six years, working with various tour operators, hospitality groups and other luxury travel brands. Before that, I headed up the content department at Kuoni, where I wrote all kinds of copy, managed in-house writers and commissioned freelancers.

I completed a degree in English Language and Literature, then dabbled in magazine and book publishing. My first paid job — as an editorial assistant at an engineering magazine — was primarily to fund a nine-month backpacking trip. That trip confirmed that I wanted to work in travel, and I secured a content editor role at Kuoni. Donning a product/brand hat and achieving that balance of salesy, informative and inspiring copy really appealed to me, and I’ve stuck with copywriting ever since.

The Travel Copywriting 101 online course has a whole section on tone of voice and how to position yourself for success with new clients. Want to know more? Buy the course for the launch price of just £279 now before it goes up to £299 on August 1st.
