Nikki Vargas, Jacqueline Gifford · The Fast Track

Since launching The Fast Track by Travel + Leisure a month ago, we’ve fallen in love with the Substack community. Unlike other social media ecosystems, here is a corner of the internet where things feel intentional and real. Between the thoughtful comments and the long-form content, it’s clear that Substack is a place where reverence for the written word, human artistry, and creativity reign supreme. We’re here for it.

One day, while happily swimming through a feed made up of book recommendations and interesting posts, we spotted a comment about The Fast Track and its place within the Substack universe. It posed an interesting question, which gave way to even more interesting questions:

Do legacy brands belong on Substack?

How will Travel + Leisure’s Substack differ from its magazine and website, anyway?

How will Travel + Leisure support other Substackers, and what exactly is The Fast Track bringing to the metaphorical Substack table?

All valid questions. All deserving of responses.

And so our associate editorial director, Nikki Vargas, sat down with our editor in chief, Jacqui Gifford, to ask these very questions. In doing so, we hope to bring the same intentionality and thoughtfulness to your questions that the Substack community has shown us since our launch.
