90-Seconds to Reset: Because that’s all you have!

If you’re a therapist, a nurse, a pastor, a teacher, a parent — anyone who absorbs other people’s hard days for a living — you know the feeling. You finish a heavy conversation and carry it into the next room. You run on empty by 2pm and still have more to give. You brace before a session you know is going to hurt. Sometimes you just snap.

We’re good at telling other people to slow down and breathe. We’re terrible at doing it ourselves.

That’s why I built the 90-Second Reset Deck.

It’s a small set of cards — one for each way a hard day tends to show up in your body — plus a “My Own Reset” card so you can make it yours. Each card walks you through the G.R.O.W. Method in about 90 seconds, so you can come back to yourself before you step into whatever’s next.

The five states it’s built for:

  • Carrying the last session — right after a heavy conversation

  • Running on empty — mid-day depletion, still more to give

  • Bracing for the next one — the anxious gap before a hard session

  • Snapped / dysregulated — when you’ve already been flooded

  • The day is over — when you can’t put it down

Because that’s often all you have. Ninety seconds between clients. Ninety seconds in the car before you walk inside. Ninety seconds in the bathroom at work when your nervous system is screaming, and your calendar doesn’t care.

The deck runs on the G.R.O.W. Method — the same trauma-healing framework I’ve taught to more than 30,000 people over 35 years as a trauma therapist:

  • Ground — get your body back in the room. Feet on the floor, a few slow breaths, exhale longer than the inhale.

  • Recognize — name what you’re actually feeling and where you feel it. No fixing yet. Just honest noticing.

  • Open — soften toward it instead of bracing against it. Ask what this moment might have to teach you.

  • Walk — take one small, doable step forward. Not the whole staircase. The next stair.

That’s it. You feel a hard moment land in your body; you grab the matching card and take your 90 seconds. No app, no subscription to your own healing, no 45-minute practice you’ll never actually do.

Download the deck, print it, and cut the cards apart (they’re sized to print two per page). Keep one on your desk, one in your bag, one on your phone. When a hard moment shows up, reach for the card that matches — and give yourself a minute and a half to reset.
