Writing has been my preferred method of communication for as long as I can remember. It gives me the space to complete my thoughts and fully express myself before I’m bombarded by a rebuttal, or varied perspectives.
It started with a fascination with words, then adjectives, and became the safe space for sharing my ideas, dreams, and reflective thoughts.
Yet, my writing had been private, or in the form of a paper requested by a professor. Until a friend began sharing her blog posts online. I was intrigued, both by her writing and this new to me method called blogging.
At the time, this friend lived in New York City and I couldn’t get enough of her stories. So without hesitation, I learned what I could about blogging, and the readily available platform of the times, Blogger.
I would share whatever I wanted to then. Whether I wanted to teach something, or I was annoyed by something, I wrote and shared it. There were no “rules,” just creative and writing freedom.
Blogging gave me the space to share my writing in a new way, and I never thought twice about whether or not someone was going to read my words. I was writing for the joy of it. I was writing because writers simply cannot not write.
That experience laid the foundation for the writing that would come a few years later in what I think of as the merger of two of my professional pathways, nursing and writing. It was the beginning of This Holistic Life, a blog where I shared wellness content to help people understand the vast number of resources available to enhance their health and well-being.
This Holistic Life has evolved over the years, but that was the point - to write and teach from the totality of my life, to share from acquired wisdom and lived experiences, and to learn and grow right alongside my readers.
This Holistic Life now has over 15 years of content and resources for you to learn from.
So my advice to you is if something sparks your curiosity, jump right in and give it a try. When you look back and see your progress, you might just amaze yourself with all you’ve been able to accomplish.
What is something that you want to learn or do? What’s one action you can take right now to get started?
