All about Flower Essences: Archangel Azrael

My first official encounter with the Archangel Azrael occurred during my last year living in Chicago.

It started out in a very subtle way while I was working from home, in an otherwise empty apartment during an early Spring afternoon. A kind of quiet, seemingly amber-colored psychic patina descended into my perception, my energy body, and the overall quality of my physical space and life. In contrast with other spirit guides whose presence tends to come with “things and stuff”, Azrael’s presence was more like the absence of things and stuff. I found myself with an abundance of time and quiet in which to reflect, as though I had entered some kind of protective, muted membrane in which to spiritually gestate.

While it was peaceful, it was also sad: there was a palpable undercurrent of nostalgia, but not for anything or anyone specific. I felt raw and tender as the edges of everything material seemed to get fuzzy and blurred.

Armed with my new weird, spontaneous psychic mood, I walked over to a Japanese restaurant in my West Loop neighborhood a bit early in the evening. There, I found myself lost in shamanic thought while sitting quietly at the sushi bar. At one point, the word, “Azrael” popped into my head, and I instantly started researching it on my phone. It was this context that helped me put this very strange day into its proper context, but as I read about Azrael— and, specifically, his role as the Angel of Death— I found myself feeling more confused than when I had started my research.

You see: no one in my life had just died, nor was anyone about to. With the gift of hindsight, I can also confirm that no one died unexpectedly around Azrael’s visit with me during that time.

So, what was he doing with me?

In the years since this experience— and through a handful of other encounters with Azrael in my client-facing work— I’ve managed to fill in a few gaps.
