Signing off till next year

Happy holidays everyone!

Voices in the Code is my first book project. It’s a story about how people worked together to remake the moral choices inside the kidney transplant matching algorithm. There are hard tradeoffs, unlikely heroes, plot twists… and high stakes software at the heart of it all. It’s meant for a “crossovers” readership — scholars and undergrads, but also anyone curious.

I got the peer reviews back last week, and they were good. The reviewers understood what I’m trying to do, liked what I’ve got so far, and had lots of useful advice about how to make it better. 

In the interest of getting the book into the world as soon as possible, I’m now totally focused on finalizing its text, and plan to get it back to the publisher in mid-January. As I am learning, “soon” for a book is measured in book time: if all goes well (and the global paper supply chain does not intervene), the book should be published some time before Labor Day of next year.

This also means I’m putting the newsletter on pause until that mid-January deadline. See you in the new year.
