On 5 August 1598, during the Maclean-Macdonald feud and in a fight over territory on the Isle of Islay, Sir Lachlan Mor MacLean of Duart was defeated by his nephew, Sir James MacDonald of Dunnyveg, at the Battle of Traigh Ghruineard on Islay.
