## [Matching Puzzle Pieces and Disappointing Benchmarks](https://llogiq.github.io/2026/03/20/case.html)

I recently had a piece of code that used .to\_lowercase() to sort some text. Which takes a bit of memory. On the plus side, the code used .sort\_by\_cached\_key, which is pretty cool. But I wondered whether doing the .to\_lowercase() log(n) times instead of n times would be slower than allocating a String for each entry, given that for many strings, even the first few charactes would be different.

Recently I was working on a Rust PR to reduce unreachable\_code lint churn after todo!() calls, that basically removes lint messages from unreachable\_code after todo!() and instead adds a todo\_macro\_uses lint which can be turned off while the code is still being worked on. However, once that change was done, I ran into a number of failing tests, because while they had a #!\[allow(unused)\] or some…

for as long as i can remember, i've almost always been the dude who doesn't use my name and uniform identity for internet handle. there were a few exceptions in my early days but, i mostly came with whatever sounded cool for me at the time. it's a combination of the way i've been living and also a newfound interest in digital privacy. i was raised in a very strict, conservative family and like…

it's been a while since the last time i write here and i still have a whole lot of backlog story i haven't completed yet, including the aftermath of my interview. i'll write it next time but in short: i passed, cool. ok then let's go to google rant. in the past year, i've been into digital privacy, big tech shenanigans and everything entails. i watch and follow a lot stuff regarding it. louis…

i've been not so okay since the last few days ago. the interview that i prepped for days went nuclear. it all started with that afternoon coffee of doom. i drank one, hoping that it would help me pass through the final day before the interview with some real grind, and then it happened. i hit up my friend at around 22:00 that i was already fed up of rehearsing lines and going to go to sleep…

## [Getting Started](https://mementomori.bearblog.dev/getting-started/)

Hi, hello everyone. I'm just a dude and I want to write a blog regularly. I'm not going to pretend it's the first time i write this kind of post. I've tried to start a blog at least thrice but none ended up with much of a follow up. One problem I noticed is that the pressure of writing something substantial discourages me from just writing whatever pops up in my head. Until recently I've used…

Hi folks, I’m back from RustWeek, and the ten-year celebration also almost marks ten years of me coding in Rust. Cue the (self-)congratulation and the feel-good things. This is hopefully one of those.

Recently, Tobias Bernard posted a retrospective of his (and our) experience engaging with the GNOME Foundation regarding the removal of Sonny Piers from our community, followed by a response from Allan Day. I know it's difficult and stressful to talk about; a lot of people just want it to go away. It took a long time to write this. The details regarding the removal of Sonny Piers will never be…
