## [Single image month again](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2026-07-01.html)

_2026-07-01 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

July is another single image month, that will include lots of additional images I found from artists that I've already included in the archive.

## [Amiga Graphics Archive 18 years old](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2026-06-25.html)

_2026-06-25 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

On this day 18 years ago I launched the Amiga Graphics Archive with the goal of creating a curated gallery with high quality and rare pixel art images made with and for the Commodore Amiga computer. As a special treat, I've added an image by Jim Sachs called Multimedia that I found in a badly scaled version, that I was able to restore pretty close to its original state.

## [More Das große Amiga Jahrbuch 1987 images](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2026-05-12.html)

_2026-05-12 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

Added more images from the Das Grosse Amiga Jahrbuch 1987, including a lot of page scans. The book included a lot of famous images, which I had already added in other collections, but I've not been able to find any of the artsy or kids drawings.

## [Ken Costello color cycling images](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2026-04-20.html)

_2026-04-20 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

Added a huge selection of color cycling images by Ken Costello. Some of them are simple experiments, others have really creative and intricate animations. Many created around 1986, when the Amiga was still brand new on the market.

## [Jo-Anne Park images](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2026-04-12.html)

_2026-04-12 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

I found several very old images by Jo-Anne Park, including some C64 versions, which also led me to her full name. She was already very active on the C64 and you can see the progression when she went on to the Amiga.

## [Single image month](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2026-03-01.html)

_2026-03-01 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

March is single image month in which I add images that didn't fit into larger updates or are missing images from older updates.

## [CU Amiga magazine images](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2026-01-25.html)

_2026-01-25 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

First update of the year and I added a whole collection of nice images from CU Amiga magazine. I went down the rabbit hole and added scans from the magazines' Art Gallery section, which included lots more really cool art. But as usual it's been really difficult to find the original versions of these images.

## [2025 Recap: so many projects](https://fasterthanli.me/articles/2025-recap)

_2025-12-31 · fasterthanli.me_

I’ve been working on so many projects in 2025, I thought it was important for me to make a recap, if only just to clear my head. There are many, many, many things to go through and we don’t have a sponsor today, so I’m gonna start right away with facet! facet facet is a project that I started working on in March of this year — that’s right, it’s only been ten months, yet it feels like an eternity.

## [Introducing arborium, a tree-sitter distribution](https://fasterthanli.me/articles/introducing-arborium)

_2025-12-13 · fasterthanli.me_

About two weeks ago I entered a discussion with the docs.rs team about, basically, why we have to look at this: When we could be looking at this: And of course, as always, there are reasons why things are the way they are. In an effort to understand those reasons, I opened a GitHub issue which resulted in a short but productive discussion. I walked away discouraged, and then decided to, reasons be…

## [Does Dioxus spark joy?](https://fasterthanli.me/articles/does-dioxus-spark-joy)

_2025-11-22 · fasterthanli.me_

Note: this article is adapted from a presentation I gave at a Rust Paris Meetup — that’s why it sounds a little different than usual. Enjoy! Good evening! Tonight, I will attempt to answer the question: Does Dioxus spark joy? Or at the very least, whimsy. What’s Dioxus, you ask? It is first and foremost a name that is quote: “legally not inspired by any Pokémon”. Even if the author concedes in a…

## [Engineering a Rust optimization quiz](https://fasterthanli.me/articles/engineering-a-rust-optimization-quiz)

_2025-11-01 · fasterthanli.me_

There are several Rust quizzes online, including one that’s literally called the “Unfair Rust Quiz” at https://this.quiz.is.fckn.gay/ , but when I was given the opportunity to record an episode of the Self-Directed Research podcast live on the main stage of EuroRust 2025 , I thought I’d come up with something special. The unfair rust quiz really deserves its name. It is best passed…

## [Compute! Amiga Resource magazine images](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2025-10-11.html)

## [Making our own spectrogram](https://fasterthanli.me/articles/making-our-own-spectrogram)

_2025-09-15 · fasterthanli.me_

A couple months ago I made a loudness meter and went way too in-depth into how humans have measured loudness over time. Today we’re looking at a spectrogram visualization I made, which is a lot more entertaining! We’re going to talk about how to extract frequencies from sound waves, but also how my spectrogram app is assembled from different Rust crates, how it handles audio and graphics threads,…

## [Various color cycling images](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2025-07-05.html)

_2025-07-05 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

Added a big selection of color cycling images, each with interesting and fascinating techniques to achieve astonishing animations simply by shifting the color values around the palette. I also built a new color cycling converter that can better fit these animations into loopable sections and can also handle interlaced images.

## [Introducing facet: Reflection for Rust](https://fasterthanli.me/articles/introducing-facet-reflection-for-rust)

_2025-06-05 · fasterthanli.me_

I have long been at war against Rust compile times. Part of the solution for me was to buy my way into Apple Silicon dreamland, where builds are, like… faster. I remember every time I SSH into an x86\_64 server, even the nice 64-core ones. And another part was, of course, to get dirty with Rust itself. I wrote Why is my Rust build so slow? , which goes in-depth into rust build performance, down to…

## [More Amiga Magazin images](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2025-05-31.html)

_2025-05-31 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

Added the next batch of Amiga Magazin images. This time from the color cycling contests in July 1988. I switched the format for images with color cycling or animations in CRT mode to MP4, because some of the loops were getting too long and using animated WEBP files wasn't practical anymore.

## [The promise of Rust](https://fasterthanli.me/articles/the-promise-of-rust)

_2025-04-16 · fasterthanli.me_

The part that makes Rust scary is the part that makes it unique. And it’s also what I miss in other programming languages — let me explain! Rust syntax starts simple. This function prints a number:  fn show ( n : i64 ) { println! ( "n = {n}" ); } And this program calls that function — it looks like any C-family language so far, we got parentheses, we got curly brackets, we got, uhh…

Background I recently had a bit of impromptu disaster recovery , and it gave me a hunger for more! More downtime! More kubernetes manifest! More DNS! Ahhhh! The plan was really simple. Sometimes you pay a setup fee, et cetera. And at some…

## [Amiga Magazin images](https://amiga.lychesis.net/updates/2025-03-01.html)

_2025-03-01 · Amiga Graphics Archive_

The most popular option to decompress ZIP files from the Rust programming language is a crate simply named zip — At the time of this writing, it has 48 million downloads. ## [Catching up with async Rust](https://fasterthanli.me/articles/catching-up-with-async-rust)

In December 2023, a minor miracle happened: async fn in traits shipped. As of Rust 1.39, we already had free-standing async functions:  pub async fn read\_hosts () -\> eyre :: Result \< Vec \< u8 \>\> { // etc. } …and async functions in impl blocks:  impl HostReader { pub async fn read\_hosts ( & self ) -\> eyre :: Result \< Vec \< u8 \>\> { // etc. } } But we did not have async…

I have obsessed about this long enough, I think it’s only fair I (and you!) get some content out of it. When I started writing this article, I was working on my P99 CONF slides.
