Rogue One proved that Star Wars could grow up. It balances the nostalgia of the original trilogy with a dark, mature, and visually stunning narrative about the high cost of hope. If you haven't revisited it recently—especially after watching its masterful prequel series Andor—it is well worth a rewatch.

Great review, Mark! I completely agree with your take on the unevenness of the "fix-up" format and Amalfi's almost god-like leaps of logic. Your comparison to Asimov's Foundation is absolutely spot on, especially regarding that grand scale of human expansion and the Campbellian focus on human ingenuity conquering all. I'm actually doing a deep dive into Earthman, Come Home and this specific era of…

Always appreciate a reminiscence from someone who knows/knew the writer. Must admit that I didn't think about the Count of Monte Cristo reference until after I'd read it, but it all makes sense in the end.

Just watched the TV version of The Count of Monte Cristo (May 2026), and had forgotten about its connection to The Stars My Destination -- which wiped me out when I read it as a teenager in the 1950s. I had totally forgotten about the simmering sexuality just under the surface of Bester's novel, which of course becomes up-front on television's version of The Count. (Would be wonderful to have the…

I remember this more fondly. I think the only juveniles with a shift in prltagonist viewpoint are Tunnel, Star Beast, and Poddy. Not sure why reviewer said the opposite. I disagree with Steve on the relativity being a mistake in Jones. It's different devices in different stories Tunnel has another.
