As an open source dev, publishing a new project is always a source of stress. Not because of adoption, but mainly because of feedback: things you did not see, or choices you got wrong. That is why I often run polls, and why I change my mind when needed. Open source projects only live through you. I do not build for me, I build for us.
RE: https:// toot.fedilab.app/@apps/1171351 74541471537 # FediHood now supports # ActivityPub events, which means it is compatible with software such as # Mobilizon . You can create and receive events in the area you selected. Joining and leaving events is not implemented yet.
The source code of # FediHood is now available under the AGPLv3. A # Fediverse app using # OpenStreetMap to display timelines close to you, filtered by topics. More about the project: https:// fedihood.social/about Source code: https:// git.holos.social/tom79/FediHood
# FediHood now lets you upload custom emojis (limited to 10 per user for now, but admins can change the default value). They can only be used by the person who uploaded them, and there is no conflict with existing shortcodes.
For devs who build apps on the # Mastodon API, I have started to document the dedicated endpoints for # FediHood . The common Mastodon endpoints are already supported. https:// fedihood.social/api-docs Of course, these will be added to # Fedilab
If you're tired of using proprietary software and devices to cast media to your TV, did you know there is an open source protocol called # FCast ? # CastLab , an app that I maintain, works with this protocol. It is only available on # FDroid : https:// f-droid.org/packages/app.fedil ab.castlab/ More about FCast: https:// fcast.org/ Don't hesitate to take back control. The app also works with #…
Concerning # FediHood , I made the choice that web pages such as profiles, messages and threads are not available on the web without authentication. That keeps out all scrapers and crawlers. Of course, this does not break the federation. Good choice Bad choice No opinion
# FediHood supports custom emojis, but I think people should be able to import their own (limited to around 10) and only usable by them. I will add another tab in the emoji picker to quickly find them.
The domain fedihood.social is flagged as dangerous by Bitdefender, which may be the reason why confirmation emails are being rejected as spam by some providers. I registered the domain on August 7th, and this false positive is causing a lot of problems. # FediHood
More and more of you are joining # FediHood , currently the only # Fediverse software that lets you build a local timeline with people posting around you. You choose how far around you the timeline reaches, and which topics you want to see.
Concerning # FediHood , the verification email contains only a few words with a link carrying the token. Unfortunately, this makes the email get rejected as spam by some providers. I neglected that part, having tested with only three providers. Sorry about that.
# Fedle is quietly reaching 14k games played on the # Fediverse . It's a word game available in: - English @ Fedle_en - French @ Fedle_fr - Italian @ Fedle_it - Spanish @ Fedle_es - German @ Fedle_de You just need to follow a bot to play. You can see which instances are in the lead: https:// fedle.fedilab.app/leaderboard
RE: https:// toot.fedilab.app/@apps/1171128 66004253595 Would you be interested in signing up and then logging in to # FediHood through your current # Fediverse account? The scope would be "read:accounts" only, just to check that you own the account, and the token is destroyed right after. Yes, that makes things easier No, I wouldn't trust it No opinion
We are now more than 300 users on # FediHood . The project is stable enough for me to invite you to try it. It is a software running on # ActivityPub and using # OSM . The idea? Discover people near you or all around the world, and filter by topic. It doesn't use GPS, you pick the town. The app warns you if your city is too small and suggests a bigger one nearby. Bonus: it supports # E2EE DMs.…
