My focus on Humane Health

To start, here’s an unorganised list of my activities and thought leadership areas in the last couple of years:

In the book Mission Economy, University College of London Professor Mariana Mazzucato explores the changes required from governments to drive transformative change.  Her book uses the US Government’s moonshot approach for the Apollo space programme as a model for how governments can be mission oriented, and by using the same approach to partnerships, innovation, and financing, governments can address global problems such as climate change, mobility, healthcare, and education.

I agree that Healthcare needs a change in mindset - both from the public sector and the private sector.   This change in approach can lead to making health more humane.   What do I mean by humane?    It is a vision where we achieve:

• The creation of new consumer journeys that embed innovations that lead to better outcomes, both for prevention and sick care

• An increase in screenings and diagnostics for all people, regardless of their income and geographic location

• An improvement in access and affordability of treatments which people need to maintain a good quality of life

• The removal of other challenges and health disparities besides access and affordability, such as time, cultural barriers, and other restrictions which affect vulnerable and underserved populations around the world

• Greater diversification in clinical studies so current and future health interventions are tested on representative groups that reflect the ethnic and geographical variety found worldwide

• Addressing the environmental impacts of climate change to reduce their impact on the health of communities

• Equitable pricing models for new diagnostic and therapeutic innovations for all disease areas

• New, scalable funding mechanisms which create a win for both the financial sector that provides safety nets for individuals and for the people receiving health support over the course of their lives

How do we reach these goals for Humane Health?   Through my work in thought leadership and business building, I believe that succeeding in delivering on the two broad trends of Personalised Health and Health Equity will get us there.     Put simply:
