The NBA unveiled its complete 2026-27 schedule Thursday, and while there are plenty of fascinating dates scattered throughout the schedule, these 10 stand above the rest:
🏀 October 20: Philadelphia 76ers at Knicks
The wait is over.
Before the Knicks begin their championship defense, Jalen Brunson and company will receive their rings and watch the franchise’s first title banner since 1973 rise to the Madison Square Garden rafters. For Knicks fans, it will be one last opportunity to soak in the glory of that unforgettable run before turning the page to a new season.
As if Ring Night needed additional juice, the opponent will be the revamped Sixers, featuring LeBron James and Jaylen Brown making their Philadelphia debuts alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. James’ first game in a Sixers uniform. Brown’s first game since being traded by Boston. The Knicks’ first game as reigning champions.
The NBA could not have scripted a more compelling opener.
🏀 October 23: Knicks at Boston Celtics
Just three days after Ring Night, the Knicks will travel to Boston for their first road game of the season. It will also mark their first matchup against Mitchell Robinson.
Watching Mitch in green will be jarring. Watching him battle Karl-Anthony Towns, Andre Drummond and his former Knicks teammates will be even stranger.
There are plenty of legitimate questions surrounding Boston after the blockbuster deal that sent Brown to Philadelphia, but the Celtics still employ Jayson Tatum and added Paul George. They will remain one of New York’s primary threats in the East.
This early-season matchup should provide our first glimpse at the recalibrated balance of power atop the Atlantic Division.
