There’s a lot happening around Another Door Comics right now, and over the past few weeks it feels like several things we’ve been working toward are finally beginning to come together.
New readers are discovering The Boy in the Bot. Books are arriving from the printer. I’ve started looking back at some of the stranger and more interesting corners of my career. We’re sharing more behind-the-scenes material than ever before. And, of course, we’re continuing to build toward the final chapter of the Project B.L.U.E. origin story this fall.
So, here’s a little of what’s been happening.
THE BOY IN THE BOT IS GOING DIGITAL
One of our biggest goals this year has been making our stories easier to discover.
With that in mind, The Boy in the Bot Issue One is now expanding beyond the printed page and becoming available digitally across a growing number of platforms, including:
WEBTOON
GlobalComix
Amazon Kindle
DriveThruComics
Panels
If you haven’t read The Boy in the Bot yet, this is a great place to start.
The story follows young Billy Dawson after he discovers a mysterious robot connected to something called Project B.L.U.E. What begins as an unexpected friendship quickly pulls Billy into a much larger mystery involving a ruthless corporation, secrets surrounding his family, and one very important question:
What is Project B.L.U.E.?
Making Issue One available across more digital platforms gives new readers an easy way to enter the world before we reach the conclusion of this opening story later this year.
ONE PANEL AT A TIME
We’re also doing something a little different on social media.
Every day, we’re sharing one panel from The Boy in the Bot Issue One, allowing followers to experience the story sequentially, one moment at a time.
I’ve always loved serialized storytelling, so there’s something fun about returning to that idea in such a simple way.
One panel.
One day.
And slowly, the mystery unfolds.
If you’ve already read the book, it’s a chance to revisit the story. If you haven’t, you can follow along and meet Billy, the Bot, and the rest of the cast as the adventure develops.
Follow Another Door Comics on social and join us from the beginning.
MEET THE CHARACTERS
Alongside the daily panels, we’ve also started sharing weekly character spotlights.
One of my favorite parts of creating these stories is figuring out who these characters are beyond what happens on the page. Their personalities, motivations, flaws, relationships, and histories all shape the larger world we’re building.
The weekly character posts give us an opportunity to dig into some of that material and introduce readers to the people, robots, heroes, villains, and occasional questionable personalities inhabiting the Another Door Comics universe.
Some you already know.
Others you’ll be meeting very soon.
DIDJA KNOW?I’ve also started a new social series called DIDJA KNOW?
For this one, I’m opening up the archives a little.
Before Another Door Comics, I spent much of my career working across comics, licensing, publishing, entertainment, toys, television, film, and live experiences.
Over the years I was fortunate enough to work on a tremendous range of projects, and there are a lot of stories, artwork, designs, and strange little pieces of creative history tucked away in that career.
The DIDJA KNOW? posts are my opportunity to revisit some of them.
I’ve been digging through old files and talking about projects from my years working with Marvel and other entertainment brands, including some of the licensing programs, publishing projects, branding, film and television work, and creative development that happened behind the scenes.
Some of these projects were seen by millions of people.
Others are things almost nobody outside the teams involved would ever know existed.
That’s part of the fun.
If you’re interested in comics, entertainment design, licensing, publishing, or just seeing how some of this stuff gets made, keep an eye out for the series.
There are a lot more stories to tell.
A SIGNAL FROM SPACE HAS LANDED
Speaking of things arriving...
A Signal from Space has officially shipped from the printer and the books are now on their way to our backers!
Seeing a finished book finally arrive after months of writing, drawing, coloring, designing, proofing, printing, campaigning, and waiting is still one of the best parts of doing this.
To everyone who backed the campaign, supported the project, shared it, or became one of our Keyholders, thank you!
We’re incredibly excited to finally get these books into your hands.
AN INCREDIBLE GIFT FROM DANIEL MAIA
I also received a pretty incredible surprise recently from Daniel Maia, who gifted me original pages from Apparition: Metempsychosis.
Original comic art is always special.
There’s something completely different about seeing the actual page in person. The pencil marks, ink, corrections, textures, and small decisions that disappear once everything is scanned, colored, lettered, and printed suddenly become visible again.
These pages are now framed and mounted, and I couldn’t be happier to have them.
Daniel, thank you.
It means more than you know.
NEXT STOP: PLASTIC CITY COMIC CON
If you happen to be in the area later this month, I’ll be at Plastic City Comic Con on August 22nd.
I’ll have books, comics, and plenty of Another Door Comics material with me, so if you’re attending, please come by the table and say hi.
One of the best parts of conventions is getting the opportunity to meet readers face-to-face, talk comics, hear what people are enjoying, and introduce someone to a book they may never have encountered otherwise.
Hope to see some of you there.
PLASTIC CITY COMIC CON
AND THEN THERE’S BOOK THREE...
Of course, everything we’re doing right now is also leading toward something much bigger.
The Boy in the Bot Book Three is coming.
Book Three will conclude the Project B.L.U.E. origin story, and the team has been hard at work bringing the final chapters together.
I’ve included a few sneak peeks below from some of the latest pages.
No spoilers.
Well... not too many.
The campaign is currently scheduled to launch on Kickstarter this October, and you can sign up now to be notified the moment we go live.
If you’ve been following Billy and the Bot from the beginning, you’re going to want to see where this story goes.
And if you’re just discovering The Boy in the Bot, there’s still plenty of time to catch up.

MORE DOORS TO OPEN
One of the reasons we called this company Another Door Comics was the idea that creative careers rarely travel in straight lines.
Projects end.
Industries change.
Opportunities disappear.
New ones appear.
And sometimes, when one door closes, the only thing to do is build another.
Right now, that door is opening a little wider.
More readers are finding the books. More stories are taking shape. More projects are moving forward. And we’re finding new ways to share both the comics we’re creating today and some of the creative history that helped lead us here.
Thanks, as always, for reading, following, sharing, backing, and supporting what we’re building.
There’s much more coming.
See you through the next door.
Tom
