Exploring streams in our backyard

Hey friends,

I’m headed on the road with the wife and kids for the next few weeks, with stops in Asheville, Cape Cod, and finally, the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

In the meantime, here’s 10 things I came across this week that inspired or moved me in some way:

  1. I started reading Spinoza in the Spring, and then a freak accident set me off my schedule for a bit. But I’m back, and this week I posted my read-along notes on Part IV of The Ethics. The last part is coming out next week.

  2. I’m in the middle of writing my debut novel (technically still a manuscript), and I’ve been thinking about how best to get it out into the world. Apparently, some people are getting literary agents in 48 hours, while others are proudly self-publishing by choice. I haven’t decided which route to take yet, I just want this to be the best work I can do and for it to reach as many readers as possible.

  3. Why did I start writing? There isn’t a good answer other than I felt something inside and just started. I wanted to be creative and live a good, meaningful life.

  4. I asked Substack who are some good fiction writers to follow. Here’s who they recommended. Some of them are really good.

Hope you are enjoying your summer!
