It’s the Monday before the release of Marian Heretic #1/New York Comic Con 2025 as I sit here typing this, and it feels like Christmas. Or the night before my wedding day. Or three days after you’ve been buried and you’re ready to get the fuck up out the tomb and party.
Not only does Wednesday mark the release of Marian Heretic, one of Friday’s panels will mark the announcement of another book I’ve been working on for years, one I am so, so ready to not have to keep quiet anymore. You’ll get it when you see it.
Been wanting a copy of Marian Heretic #1 and you haven’t ordered it yet? Looks like Golden Apple has some on their website…for now. They might be hard to get come Wednesday, because in case you didn’t already see…
We sold out at the distributor level nearly a week before release! That’s an incredible feeling, made even more incredible by the fact that Marian’s a brand new character. You all are already so excited for her, and I’m certain she won’t disappoint.
If you’re going to NYCC, here’s where you can catch me. I’ll have an Artist Alley table at I40 with books you can buy and my schedule posted, but I won’t be there too much on Thursday or Friday. You can catch me at the DC or Boom! booths those days:
I am going to be going all day every day between these engagements, so if you see me and I appear to be running between two back to back interviews-meetings-dinners-signings-appearances, it’s because I am. I bought new sneakers for this. This is what we train for.
This weekend, Revenge Of Comics and Pinball and Boom! partnered to have an early release party. We had a few early Marian #1s to sign and sell, and it’s never a bad time there. I met fans, talked about the book, played a lil pinball, and had an excellent Americano and some kickass pastries next door at And Destroy, their sister shop with incredible coffee, food, vibes, and tables for cards, D&D, or just reading your purchases from next door. It’s a genuine third space with an incredibly cheap barrier for entry, (a cup of coffee, a comic, or a few games of pinball are more than enough to justify the hangout time,) and that’s something we need a lot more of nowadays.
One of the highlights was talking to Sami DeMonster, one of my favorite voices in comics right now. She was kind enough to shoot a video with me at the shop on Saturday, and you can check it out on Instagram, here!
Alright heretics, I’ve got a lot left to do, and not a lot of time to do it in. Here’s a short list of things I’ve been enjoying lately: Octavia Butler’s The Parable of the Sower, watching the 28 (Time) Later franchise and defending the first one the most, croissants stuffed with whipped cream and berries, 11pm walks, weird shoes, or as OldLoserInBrooklyn calls them, “a nasty freaky little shoe,” daydreaming about my NYC bagel orders, secret playlists for secret projects with friends, Cyberpunk 2077, Hades 2, the new season of On Cinema.
