At the corner of you and me, But there’s a whole city block
where we meet, it’s a long straight line.
(the rest of me, the rest of you)
stretching away from
that line.
All the bodegas
and consignment stores.
The coffee shops. None of those
places connect, so you only end up
knowing where the long skinny line of me
meets the long skinny line of you.
This is why marriages fail.
It’s not where we meet that matters most.
It’s the willingness to walk down the block.
Check out where we don’t meet,
go exploring.
It’s opening the door that rings
the little bell. (Sombody’s here)
Maybe you go
up and down the aisles.
Maybe, I don’t know,
you buy something.
Come on. I don’t know if it’s wisdom. But I sure don’t know how to do this. The spider, she has her own ways. And if you’re a weaver or a quilter or a mender—anything where you’re using thread to create something from nothing—you know that this image is proof of beauty, patience, dedication, brilliance AND wisdom in action.
This guy has articulated one of the best ideas of this century. Somebody do this.
