Why do we need a Christian education? What makes it special?
Christian education exists to pass down the truth of God’s Word from one generation to the next, to inform students about all of God’s created order, and – most importantly – to form students to be more like our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. We know that a student will become like their teacher. So, this formation of students requires spiritually mature Christian teachers and school leaders who are excellent mentors and masters of their craft. Christian education also requires high academic and behavioral standards for excellence in education to occur. God uses teachers and school leaders to set the table for the Holy Spirit to work in the lives of the children attending Christian schools.
Think about building a house. If you start with a weak foundation, the whole house will be shaky, right? But if you build on a solid rock, the house will stand strong, no matter what storms come its way!
Christian education is like building a house on a solid rock. Its purpose is to pass down the truth of God’s Word from one generation to the next, teaching us about all of God’s creation and, most importantly, shaping us to be more like Jesus. Just like a house needs a strong foundation, students need spiritually mature teachers who love God and know how to teach well. These teachers help lay the foundation, but it’s God who strengthens and builds you up through the Holy Spirit. Remember, you are a precious gift from God to your parents, and it’s their job to guide you in His ways, not just the school’s.
As Jesus says in Matthew 7:24, "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
