Thursday evening at Fifth Third Field in Toledo was another of those Max Anderson Nights.
He came to home plate five times. He had three singles. And a walk. And a strikeout, just to assure everyone he’s fallible.
It was so on-brand, Thursday’s tussle against Iowa, at least when it comes to Anderson’s offense in 2026.
He is batting .305 in 85 games with the Triple-A Mud Hens, with all the fixings, beginning with a .388 on-base percentage, in part thanks to his big 2026 breakthrough -- taking double the walks he had in earlier years.
He is slugging .494, with 13 homers and 19 doubles. He has an OPS of .882. He has nearly as many walks (41) as strikeouts (44). It translates into 11% walks in 2026 versus a teeny 11.8% whiff ratio and compares with past walk-rates of 5-6%.
The man who always could hit, as Tigers scouts knew when they grabbed him three years ago from the University of Nebraska at No. 41-overall in the 2023 MLB Draft, is hitting again.
But it’s those walks that have changed a right-hand batter’s offensive profile.
