Tift Merritt · Nightcap with Tift Merritt

Dear friends,

SUGAR is out tomorrow and I’m grateful to you that you have been here to witness the journey. As a thank you, here’s an exclusive early listen of a track from the album, Look What Love Just Did, along with the visualizer, out tomorrow.

This song is about what love does all around us so quickly. Jean skates in and cracks me up and fills my messy kitchen with laughter and the day becomes perfect. Somebody walks in, changes everything, opens doors you didn’t even know your heart had, and even if it doesn’t work out, your knees shake. There’s so much possibility for magic. The evidence is all around. I have to believe in big love, and collect the moments where it shows itself.

I can’t wait for you to hear this album all the way through, the way I intended. Old school album, a string of stories that start you one place and set you down another. As they did me. You can still grab an exclusive Nightcap Subscriber’s bundle of the new album, SUGAR, + handwritten lyrics at the link below.

I’m so grateful for all that love just did. And what it will do next. Love tift

Look What Love Just Did

Doing laundry on a Saturday night without the luxury of crying,
Lists of bills rather than wishes ‘cause I’m tending to everyone else’s,
Today turned up short but then you come crashing in,
Blue skates, you laugh and skid, look at what love just did.

Walked right in overlooking the mess, got me home in spite of myself,
Touched the root just to know the flower, set me flying reminding me how
I’d cross the world, oh just for your kiss, and what matters is what love just did,
Look what love just did.

Broke my heart how it all worked out, I still start to cry when I think about
The church on the cliff, the nights by the sea, the way that I thought he would marry me,
Loving without no trying, an ocean down inside,
No part of me not his, look at what love just did.

Walked right in overlooking the mess, got me home in spite of myself,
Touched the root just to know the flower, set me flying reminding me how
I’d cross the world just for a kiss, and what matters is what love just did,
Look what love just did.

Accidentally true north, maybe I’m not off course,
But where the magic hid, look at what love just did —

Walked right in overlooking the mess, got me home in spite of myself,
Touched the root just to know the flower, and set me flying reminding me how
I’d cross the world just for a kiss, and what matters is what love just did,
Look what love just did.
