ICYMI, LA is in the thick of a heat wave. It is HOT hot. My routine walks have turned into sweaty mini workouts against my will, and I’m asking myself questions like “has Montana Ave always been on a slight incline?”
So yeah… anyone talking about pulling their Halloween decorations out? That’s a certified offense in these parts. I will consider carving a pumpkin in 2 months. I don’t want to hear about it until then.
With a handful of friends expressing sadness over summer ending, I felt personally inclined to share a list of LA summer-fied activities you can still enjoy all the way through October. Treat this as an end of summer bucket list if you’d like. I’ve even divided it between East and West side activities for ease. Let’s go chase some sunshine!
West Side
Take a morning dip in the ocean! Blah blah blah you have work. Go on a weekday before morning calls start, it’s the best way to start the day!
Read a book at Palisades Park
Watch the skaters at the Venice Skatepark (especially recommend at golden hour!!)
Sunset drinks with a view at Kassi Club (Hotel Erwin) or Elephante
Grab a couple pitchers of margaritas with friends at The Waterfront for the ultimate Sunday Funday
Order a bottle of wine and sit curbside at Dudley Market for 1-2 hours
Drive up to El Matador for a beach day or Malibu Pier to catch sunset
Multiple friends attending bonfires at Dockweiler Beach this summer has caught me by surprise. As someone who used to partake in high school, I love that this is still a thing! Any excuse to have s’mores, really
Take a Fanta shot and sip an ice cold beer at Shellback Tavern
East Side
Host a picnic with friends at Silver Lake Meadows
Barnsdall Friday Wine Nights hosted by Silverlake Wine run through 9/11!
Attend a Dodgers game and head down the hill for an Echo Park night on Sunset Blvd - Lowboy, Bar Flores, Short Stop
KCRW Summer Nights run through 9/5! TTS OGs know this is my favorite, favorite summertime activity
Cinespia runs through 9/12! We’ve still got Josie & The Pussycats, The Sandlot and Goodfellas
The Greek Theatre season runs allll the way through Halloween. Nothing quite like a summer night at the Greek to see one of your favorites live. Highly recommend a stop at Ye Rustic Inn, Vandell or Little Dom’s on your way up!
Spend an afternoon at Arts District Brewing Co and hop to Wurstküche to continue the festivities + nosh on some dawgs!
I love a Chinatown night and I never get to do it enough. Whether you’re catching a show at LA Historic State Park (like DayTrip LA on through end of September) or you just want a night of bar-hopping, I love Homage Brewing, Cafe Tondo, Cafe Triste, Melody Lounge, General Lee’s
Sit on the hot, hot sidewalk outside Capri Club with an aperol spritz, then mob over to Walt’s for a hot dog and a brewski
Another one of those posts where I know I’ll think of 500 more activities as soon as this ships. Tell me your favorite LA summer activity in the comments below, I’d love some inspo! Xoxo see you later sunshines!
