I published another round of Reader Mail Bag questions this week (submit yours here). These ones were focused on productivity topics so I bundled them together. Within my answers I share how I:
⚖️ Balance client work
✈️ Take vacation time (and how much I take each year!)
✍🏻 Express boundaries and my schedule in my client contracts
🤯 Transformed my approach to self-employment with one mindset shift
🕐 Plan 1, 5 or even 10+ years into the future with one visualization exercise
😡 Would deal with co-workers who suck at meeting deadlines and accountability

📚 READ: Are you paying attention to what’s going on with Flock cameras around the US? If you don’t know what they are, the shortest explanation is that they are a specialized camera that can read license plates, but notably can also record basically anything else within frame (your car, your face, how you walk, etc) AND logs all of this information into a searchable database that is accessible to law enforcement. Why is this important? Because we are now hearing about numerous cases where people are being falsely accused of crimes, and only getting charges dropped IF they can use other forms of surveillance (their own dash cameras, Google maps tracking, etc.) to prove innocence. Flock cameras only exist in the US, and are expanding across the country exponentially right now:

On January 1, 2024 there were 440 flock cameras in the US. One year later that number was up 10x to 4,511 In January of this year it had increased another 12x to 54,072 And in just the last 8 months it has ballooned to almost 129,000 They are building a surveillance prison

The whole thing makes me think back to the pandemic years when right-wingers were so terrified that the government was using a “virus to control people’s movements and track them”. That fear led them to drastically increase police funding across the country, which is now being used to install thousands of these cameras and create a surveillance state. Notably, they are also diverting millions meant for opioid recovery into Flock cameras that will, no doubt, be used to criminalize people dealing with addiction.
📺 WATCH: Was anyone else obsessed with the show Nashville in the 2010s?! I think it’s one of the last series that I truly watched “in real time” (like waited for each weekly episode to come out and immediately watched it online). The loss of Hayden Panettiere, who played singer Juliette Barnes on the series, has had me feeling really sad this week. I once drove from Wisconsin to Nashville to see her dresses displayed at Ye Olde Opry. So in her memory here is a glowing recommendation to watch Nashville if you’ve never seen it (it’s good, promise!) and if you didn’t know that Hayden had an incredible voice, here’s one of my favorite songs from the show:
🎧 LISTEN: Technofascism is a topic I am constantly trying to keep up with. This episode of Movement Memos does a great job of summarizing some of the key parts, giving an update on where things are at, and clear guidance on how to actually resist it. Listen here or wherever you get your podcasts.
🧡 ENJOY: Last year we invested in grill baskets and they really expanded the types of dishes we can put together using only our grill. A current favorite are these Sweet and Spicy Mediterranean Bowls with Mint Yogurt Sauce from Plant Baes.
