My favorite sewing patterns that I use to make clothes for myself and how I plan and organize my personal sewing projects (plus a Notion template you can use to plan your own projects!)
I was organizing my wardrobe the other week and realized that the color that shows up overwhelmingly the most in my closet is blue . I wouldn’t necessarily consider blue my favorite color (a mossy yellow green is) but it is the color I gravitate towards wearing the most. Me wearing a self-drafted quilt coat dyed with indigo and a clo bias skirt I thoroughly enjoy playing with color theory and…

How to create the Double Knee front for the Dance pants
A fun and easy hack to use the Foundation Pattern to make a tunic!
In a world that’s constantly go-go-going, stillness can feel almost impossible to find. Moments to pause and breathe. Times to be quiet and notice what you notice. Or simply let it all slip away and rest in that liminal, in-between space.
We need creativity more than ever! We need your art! We need you to make things with your hands! Even if it’s not “good” or isn’t shared with anyone! Maybe even especially if it isn’t “good”!
Our bones are made of stardust—and so are the rocks. The breath filling our lungs is released into the air, drawn in by the leaves outside the window, transformed into oxygen again to fill the lungs of the bird perched on the branch. The mycelial web beneath our feet mirrors the invisible tangle of relationship that holds us: to each other, to the more-than-human world, to time itself.
I’ve talked to so many people lately who feel like they individually and on a larger scale as a society are in the process of burning things to the ground or needing to burn things to the ground and start completely fresh. So, for this week’s edition of the Oracle Deck Wall Hanging Project, I chose the word “rebirth”.
I think of balance, and I think of scales perfectly leveled. A ballerina on pointe. A point of perfect equilibrium. A calm demeanor that is neither ecstatic nor miserable. A perfect 50/50 split. But is that ever actually possible? Is balance something still, something to be achieved and held? Or is it more like a dance—constant movement, shifting weight, recalibrating with every step?
To practice compassion is to learn to dance with both the light and the dark. It is stepping into the shadow and holding hands with the monsters. It is feeling your heart break and choosing to let the cracks widen and expand rather than sealing them shut. It is allowing your grief to be a portal, an opening rather than an ending. It is looking at all parts of yourself and others and gently asking,…
This is the second piece in my year-long Wall Hanging Oracle Deck project… A place of refuge. A feeling of safety. A space to exhale, to release vigilance, to soften the shoulders and let go. A moment of relief.
I have had this idea for a big project I want to do. A big, time consuming project that brings up all sorts of fears of failure and imposter syndrome. I have wanted to create an oracle deck where the imagery for the deck are wall hangings representing a specific word… And what a better place to start than with “uncertainty”.
I have come back to sewing again and again for the past 25 years. It has been a tether in my life. Something I can hold onto. Something that reminds me of who I am. Something that brings me back to my body. Something that brings me deep joy and awe.
When I speak of magic, I mean a few different things. First, there is the magic of everyday life and the world around us. Magic as wonder and awe, mystery and miracle, romance and enchantment. The fact that we exist feels like magic to me. The existence of mycelia, of baby birds, of hot chocolate, of waves, of black holes, of changing leaves. These things are magic. They are also nature and…
Our culture glorifies individualism and says that we should be able to do it all on our own. Which just isn’t true. We need people. We can’t do it all on our own. Friends help to share the load.
