five things vol. 1

Editors Note: This week is four things, but moving forward it will be five. I gotta ease back into the swing of things folks lol!

I used to curate a “five things” list on my blog years ago. It was one of my favorites because I got to ramble on about this and that. There was nothing to research, no stats and figures that needed to be checked and cross-checked, nothing that needed to be linked, just a list of things I liked and why. I sat down last week trying to make heads and tails of what I wanted my Substack to look like moving forward and a weekly “five things” list was at the top. I have to be honest, between creating TikTok’s and then picking up writing, it was becoming overwhelming. There’s a ton of research that goes into the content I produce and sometimes it comes at

the sake of my creativity. So, I want to get back to that here and on my TikTok. I’ll still of course give you well-researched think pieces and articles but sprinkle in some fun and random things to keep my creativity sparked.

So here’s vol one of five things, five four things that I loved this week.

1. I didn’t need another saved search on eBay, but alas. It’s 4:30AM and since I had to be up in 30 minutes anyway, I killed time by scrolling on TikTok and came across a woman doing an unboxing of the most amazing Cowichan sweater and that immediately sent me to eBay. I’m a sucker for knits with an emphasis on cardigans and have had to train my restraint because if I saw one I remotely liked, I was getting it. But now, I’m only adding ones that are unique and special in some way even just a basic one. I’m looking to add two or three to my little paired-down collection this season; this style is on the list. The second is an oversized grandpa cashmere cardigan.

2. It’s cashmere season bishes! My love and obsession for them knows no bounds and I’ve been parts prepping my current collection for the season and adding new pieces to it. My latest acquisition is this little vintage number by the brand Erodos I picked up from eBay for $13. She just needs a good wash and a bit of mending and then she’ll be ready to hit the streets. Most of my cashmere is secondhand and while I prefer it that way, I have my eye on this one from COS that I may get firsthand if I can’t find it on the secondhand sites. I’m working on a longer form post about shopping for cashmere secondhand, so stay tuned for that.

3. Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing workers sticking it to the man so the dockworkers strike had me giddy! Yes, I know that had it lasted longer it would’ve come at a cost, but I’m always willing to be inconvenienced if that means a win for workers in the end. I stand ten toes down with anyone fighting for fair wages.

4. My mutual culturework has been doing the Lord’s work and leading the charge to get Whole Foods to bring back their iconic Cherry Berry Chantilly cake in slices for about a week and her hard work has paid off, THEY ARE BACK!!! I’ve not checked my personal Whole Foods location to confirm, but others have been reporting to her they’ve found them at theirs and I will be stopping by mine TUDAY to see if the rumors are true.
