I asked the moon what blue was
And he only shook his head
I asked my window what is blue
And it only swung slowly shut
I asked a red Robin what blue was
But he only said ‘Bluejay’ and
Fluttered away...so then
I waited for a bluejay to drop by
And asked the same chilling question
There was a quick hesitation
And then the bird finally said
Blue is the color of my world
From top to bottom; from boundless skies
To endless seas; Blue is what blankets
My sorrow; as I cry and cover myself
In shame; Blue is the still face of all
The thousands of Forget-me-nots and
The millions of morning glories that blossom
With vibrance each day...
And then I felt I knew what Blue was
So I joined the Bluejay in saying
Blue is the sensation of freedom;
Freedom to cry; freedom to sigh
Blue is the feeling of peace and comfort
Blue is the silent aftermath of the storm
Blue is my refuge when all is red or brown
Blue is profound: Blue is what you need
To take comfort amidst a blackening reality.
