For those who may be unaware, since Donald Trump's return to office in January 2025, the following federal entities with responsibilities related to election administration, election security, voting rights enforcement, foreign interference, and interagency coordination have been eliminated, substantially reduced, reorganized, or had their missions significantly curtailed:
CISA Election Security Program – Election security staff were placed on leave, election security activities were frozen, and many specialized election personnel were ultimately fired, transferred, or reassigned.
Election Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EI-ISAC) – Federal funding supporting this information-sharing network was eliminated.
Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) – Funding was reduced, affecting cybersecurity support available to state and local governments, including election officials.
National Security Council Election Security Group – The White House coordinating body for election security across federal agencies was eliminated.
FBI Foreign Influence Task Force – The unit focused on detecting and countering foreign influence operations in U.S. politics was disbanded.
FBI Public Corruption Team’s Election-Day Role – The public corruption team that historically helped monitor election-related criminal activity was dismantled.
DOJ Civil Rights Division – Voting Section – Most career attorneys reportedly resigned, were reassigned, or were replaced, fundamentally changing the section’s work.
Office of the Director of National Intelligence – Foreign Malign Influence Center (FMIC) – The center, including its Election Threats Executive function, was eliminated during a broader restructuring.
State Department Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference Office – The office responsible for countering foreign information operations was closed.
U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) Leadership – In July 2026, all remaining commissioners were removed, leaving the commission without active leadership. The EAC oversees voting system certification, testing laboratory accreditation, election security grants, and the national voter registration form.
Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council (CIPAC) – DHS ended this public-private forum used for cybersecurity coordination, including matters affecting election infrastructure.
Broader CISA Workforce Reductions – Beyond election specialists, CISA itself lost roughly one-third of its workforce through layoffs, buyouts, resignations, and program cuts, reducing the agency’s overall capacity to support election cybersecurity.

To help protect the midterm elections.
To help build the case for state attorneys general to open investigations into the 2024 election.
To help build the case for states that allow grand jury petitions to convene grand juries to investigate the 2024 election.
Why are independent journalists, statisticians, and cybersecurity experts building the cases to hold these people accountable?
That’s a good question.
Because no one else seems to be doing it, and our cybersecurity experts believe the states simply don’t have the technology-oriented talent needed to explain how the 2024 election was rigged or identify the election-adjacent organizations state attorneys general should be investigating.
Most importantly, we want to help prevent the same outcome from repeating because nothing has been done to stop it.
